Siliguri Municipal Corporation took strict action against an illegal construction in the Subhaspalli area following a high court order on Thursday. The property was involved in a long legal dispute that eventually reached the high court after starting years ago when the current residents family bought the house in 1998.
The high court directed the civic body to demolish the marked illegal parts of the building in phases after a prolonged hearing.
Municipal officials executed this order on Thursday by tearing down the specified portions with teams on the ground.
The family living in the house expressed anger and distress over the demolition action taken by the municipal corporation.
They claimed they faced sudden trouble and alleged that authorities gave them a notice only two days before the demolition work began.
