A high-level meeting took place at Shramik Bhavan in Siliguri to discuss restarting closed tea gardens in North Bengal. The meeting was led by Labour Minister in-charge Arjun Singh and attended by Darjeeling MP Raju Bista along with other officials and stakeholders.
The discussion centered on reopening non-operational tea gardens as soon as possible. Minister Arjun Singh stated that mismanagement and negligence by management will not be allowed to continue. He gave strict directions to take solid steps to reopen all closed tea gardens.
The process to restart the tea gardens will involve discussions with workers, local stakeholders, the government, and financial institutions. The main goal is to protect worker interests and build a financially stable system for the tea gardens. MP Raju Bista welcomed the initiative, noting that the revival of tea gardens in the Darjeeling hills, Terai, and Dooars will help restore the livelihoods and respect of thousands of workers and their families.
