Officials checked fire safety rules at a busy shopping mall on Sevoke Road in Siliguri on Saturday. Fire safety officials inspected the mall to check the safety arrangements. They checked fire equipment, fire exits, emergency paths, water supply, water motors, and other fire extinguishing tools in different parts of the building.
Officers checked if people can safely and quickly exit the building during an emergency. They checked if there are enough fire exits and if the paths are free from any blockages as per the set rules. Dharmendranath Rai from the Siliguri Fire Station said that checks are going on at important buildings and commercial places in the city.
All fire tools, water motors, and safety systems are being tested to ensure they work properly. The main goal of the fire audit is to make sure people can safely exit and rescue work can start quickly if a fire breaks out. Officials stated that crowds increase in markets and malls during the festival season.
