Siliguri witnessed a major controversy during Durga Puja over left-wing bookstalls set up in the city.
Left parties organized a protest march in the city on Saturday after disputes arose over these bookstalls across various parts of the state.
Hindu Jagran Manch, North Bengal province, held a press conference and accused the bookstalls of spreading social unrest. The organization claimed that objectionable comments about Hindu religion, Goddess Durga, and Indian civilization were being made through some left-wing bookstalls.
The Manch appealed to left-wing parties to show respect for religious feelings and Indian culture. The organization stated that attempts to create controversies over religious and cultural subjects are being watched. They also made it clear that democratic and peaceful protests will be held against any insults to Hindu religion and culture or anti-Hindu activities.
