Siliguri Launches Urgent Safety Checks for Hotels and Malls

The administration in Siliguri has launched a city-wide safety inspection drive for hotels, restaurants, lodges, and shopping malls following recent fire incidents in other parts of West Bengal. The campaign aims to ensure that all commercial establishments strictly follow fire safety regulations to protect the public.
Inspection of Safety Standards
State Tourism Minister and Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh conducted an inspection of several hotels on Station Feeder Road alongside fire department officials and the Siliguri Municipal Corporation Commissioner. Authorities are checking for valid fire licenses, the presence of fire extinguishers, clear emergency exits, and overall compliance with safety protocols.
Action Against Irregularities
This joint safety operation will continue across the city for the next month. Establishments found with minor document errors will be given one month to fix the issues, while those lacking fire licenses or having serious safety violations face the risk of temporary closure until they meet the required standards. The government has stated that this measure is intended to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of all citizens.
