Two men, including a group-C hospital worker, were arrested in Siliguri for allegedly creating fake government documents to lease out land. The arrests took place following a complaint by a Bagdogra businessman who lost 17 lakh rupees in the fraud.
Police sources stated that Gautam Dutta, a worker at Naxalbari Hospital, and his associate Shubham Ghosh were taken into custody.
The accused allegedly took 17 lakh rupees from a Bagdogra businessman by promising to get him government land on lease. Gautam created fake documents using the forged signatures of the District Magistrate and the Land and Land Reforms Officer. The fraud came to light when the businessman went to the District Magistrate office with the fake documents. Following this, a complaint was filed at the Naxalbari police station.
Both accused were presented in the Siliguri court on Monday after their arrest by the police.
