Siliguri GRP Arrests Couple for Cannabis Smuggling

Officers from the Siliguri Town Government Railway Police Station (GRPS) stopped an illegal drug smuggling attempt at Siliguri Junction Railway Station. The operation took place overnight between August 1 and August 2, 2026, during a routine security check. Police seized 7.770 kilograms of suspected cannabis from two individuals at the railway station.
Details of the Arrest
The two people arrested were identified as 32-year-old Suvendu Das and Kamala Das. Both individuals reside in Bardhaman. The couple was apprehended on the station platform while they were attempting to board the Kanchankanya Express with the contraband. Following their arrest on August 2, 2026, the suspects were produced before the Siliguri court, where Suvendu Das was remanded to custody.
Legal Action and Investigation
The Government Railway Police have registered a formal case against the suspects under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. A detailed investigation has been launched to determine where the narcotics came from and where they were intended to be delivered.
