Siliguri Central Colony Durga Puja Committee is organizing a grand celebration for its 64th year. For the first time in North Bengal, the idols of Goddess Durga, Lord Kartikeya, Lord Ganesha, Goddess Lakshmi, and Goddess Saraswati will be decorated with a total of 100 kg of gold jewellery. Committee members shared this information during a press conference held at the Siliguri Journal Club on Tuesday.
Famous artists from Balurghat are building the puja pandal. At the same time, artists from Chandannagar will create attractive lighting decorations for the event.
Authorities are making special security arrangements due to the expected large number of devotees and tourists. Barricades will be placed about eight feet before the pandal, and the entire area will be under CCTV camera surveillance. The venue will have private security guards along with a large deployment of police personnel. Organizers will also set up separate barricades behind the pandal, and devotees will have restricted queue-based entry for darshan.
