Siliguri Congress Protests Against Chief Election Commissioner

Darjeeling district Congress staged a protest at Hashmi Chowk in Siliguri on Thursday demanding the resignation and arrest of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the special intensive revision of electoral rolls. Congress workers burnt an effigy during the demonstration amid ongoing political disputes regarding the election process and voter list revisions. This protest occurred after reports emerged of objections raised by two election commissioners regarding decisions related to the voter lists.

Protest Demands and Allegations

Darjeeling district Youth Congress president Rohit Tiwari targeted the central government and the election commission during the demonstration. He alleged that a large number of voters names were removed in West Bengal through the special intensive revision process. The Congress leaders demanded that the state should hold fresh free and fair elections based on the original voter list that existed before the revision process was implemented.
