Sikkim leaders and civil groups are worried about new political plans in nearby hill areas. They want to protect the special constitutional rights of Sikkim. Article 371F gives special protections to Sikkim after it joined India in 1975. People are asking the government to explain a 4th Pathway plan found in a July 2026 draft document. They also worry about illegal migration changing local population numbers.
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang officially said no to any merger between Sikkim and the Darjeeling hills on September 27, 2026. He stated his government will always defend Article 371F.
BJP leader Raju Bista also confirmed that his party supports these legal safeguards for Sikkim and Darjeeling.
Tseten Tashi Bhutia gave a formal letter to Central Government interlocutor Pankaj Kumar Singh on October 8, 2026. The letter talks about worries regarding the 4th Option and the Permanent Political Solution for the Gorkha issue.
Leaders are asking the Central Government to give clear written answers to stop public fear and keep the state safe.
