A major landslide caused by continuous heavy rainfall has damaged several houses and government quarters in Rimbi village of West Sikkim. No casualties have been reported so far despite the heavy damage to multiple structures in the area.
The landslide occurred on Thursday night, sending debris into inhabited areas.
Government quarters of the Power Department and several private houses were damaged by the moving mud and debris. This incident has raised safety concerns for residents because continuous rainfall is still affecting connectivity and properties in the region.
Authorities are currently assessing the extent of the damage and monitoring the situation closely. A multi-agency inspection team has visited multiple affected locations across the district to review road blockages, mudflows, and structural damages.
Officials have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel through landslide-prone areas and to stay alert, especially during the night hours, while authorities work to clear roads and restore connectivity.
