A landslide struck the Lingding area in Tadong, Gangtok, on Thursday morning after heavy rain, causing damage and travel problems. A landslide occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, partially damaging a house and disrupting road connectivity. Water and mud entered the first floor of the house belonging to JN Bhattarai, and three major water pipelines were also damaged.
The road near Lingding Jhora was completely cut off from around 3 a.m. to 9 a.m., but connectivity has since been restored. No human casualties or vehicle damages were reported from this site. Authorities and local residents continue to monitor the situation.
The Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority reported that 128 people from 28 houses were evacuated from vulnerable areas of Rimbi. Relief and restoration work is underway in Singlitam and Rimbi, with food and essential supplies provided to affected families. The administration has advised residents to avoid active landslide zones and river streams during rainfall.
