Sikkim to Get First Rail Link with Gangtok Extension

Indian Railways is building a new rail link to connect Sikkim with West Bengal. The Sivok-Rangpo rail project is currently under construction to connect Darjeeling with East Sikkim. The 44.96-kilometer project costs ₹17,124 crore and will finish by December 2027 Source. The railway line includes 14 tunnels and 13 major bridges. This project also features the Teesta Bazar station, which will be one of India's first underground railway stations.

Rangpo to Gangtok Rail Extension Plan

The Ministry of Railways is planning a new 34-kilometer extension from Rangpo to Gangtok. This proposed link costs about ₹9,000 crore and was reviewed by the Integrated Multimodal Network Planning Group under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan.
