Sikkim Assembly Passes Three Important Bills And Resolutions

The Sikkim Legislative Assembly successfully passed three major bills and approved one government resolution during the third day of its four-day budget session held in Gangtok. The state assembly also officially sanctioned grant demands for five different government departments during the proceedings. Details Of Passed Legislation

The house approved three specific bills introduced by cabinet ministers. Education Minister Raju Basnet presented the Sikkim Private University (Establishment & Regulation) (Amendment) Bill, 2026, and the Board of Open Schooling and Skill Education, Sikkim (Amendment) Bill, 2026. Additionally, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, who oversees the Home Department, introduced the Sikkim Fire and Emergency Service (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which also received legislative approval. These three bills were originally tabled before the assembly on the first day of the current session.

Approval Of Environmental Resolution

Beyond the legislative bills, the assembly passed Government Resolution No.-02, 2026. This resolution was introduced by Forest and Environment Minister Pintso Namgyal Lepcha and received support from MLA Sonam Tshering Venchungpa. The resolution focuses on the application of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) (Amendment) Act, 2024, within Sikkim. This action is taken under the specific provisions of Article 252 of the Indian Constitution to ensure environmental standards are maintained across the state.
