This performance ranks as the second-most successful run chase in the history of ODI cricket and India is now holding their biggest ever chase in this format. Gill hit 26 fours and eight sixes during his time at the crease.
Gill became the second batter after Glenn Maxwell to score an ODI double century while chasing and registered the highest individual score while chasing. He also became the first cricketer to hit a double century while leading the side. Rohit Sharma scored 101 runs from 75 balls, while Virat Kohli added 29 runs and Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 31 runs not out to help India win the match by eight wickets.
West Indies scored their highest ever ODI total of 405 runs for the loss of seven wickets after winning the toss and batting first. Centuries from John Campbell, Shai Hope, and Amir Jangoo powered the visiting team total. India successfully chased the target in 50 overs with eight wickets remaining, completing their highest ever ODI run chase.
