Minister Shankar Ghosh orders strict action on Siliguri issues

West Bengal Minister Shankar Ghosh is working with Siliguri residents to resolve public grievances and civic problems. On July 29, 2026, he warned against illegal constructions and unauthorized hoardings, stating that offenders will face strict legal action. He noted that the Urban Development department is reviewing building rule violations and a special committee has been formed to investigate institutional corruption.

Minister Ghosh advised citizens to check occupancy certificates before buying property and to file FIRs if cheated by promoters. He has also directed the police to improve their response time, mandating that officers reach incident spots within 20-25 minutes of being informed. He called for the impartial application of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

To improve local governance, the Minister met with Siliguri Police Commissionerate officials in May 2026 to plan better traffic management. On July 12, 2026, police officials attended a 'Sorashori Shankar' program to address public complaints directly.

Additionally, a public service center has been opened at the Minister's constituency office to help residents. A public grievance monitoring system was also announced for launch in July 2026, which will allow people to track the status of their complaints.
