Security Forces Seize Large Illegal Arms Cache in Manipur

Security forces recovered a significant stockpile of illegal weapons, explosives, and combat gear in the Imphal East district of Manipur on Saturday, August 8, 2026. Details of the Recovered Weapons and Explosives

The search operation took place in the Khema Reserved Forest near the Forest Beat Officer’s office in the Napet Palli area. The seized inventory included four 9mm pistols with magazines and two single-barrel guns. Authorities also discovered dangerous explosive materials, specifically one suspected 4.6 kg Improvised Explosive Device (IED), 14 hand grenades, two stun shells, and one rubber bullet. Furthermore, the team found 162 live ammunition rounds of various calibers, 26 empty shell casings, and two spare magazines during the recovery process.

Beyond weaponry and explosives, the security forces uncovered various items meant for field combat and communication. Recovered gear included military fatigues, a bulletproof iron plate with a jacket cover, an ammunition charger, and a handheld communication set. All of the confiscated items have been taken into police custody. The authorities have initiated a formal investigation to determine which armed group or organization was responsible for hoarding these materials. Local police are now conducting forensic analysis on the items, while bomb disposal experts have processed the explosives.
