RSS and Seva Bharati Launch Flood Relief in Assam

Severe flooding has caused widespread damage to villages across Upper Assam, leaving thousands of families in Sivasagar and Jorhat districts without basic necessities like food, clean water, and shelter. In response to this emergency, volunteers from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Seva Bharati have started large-scale rescue and relief operations to assist the affected residents.

Rescue Operations in Sivasagar

In the Betbari area of Sivasagar, volunteers have focused on reaching families trapped by rising waters. This effort covers several locations including Kakati Gaon, D-Gaon, No. 2 Kunwar Gaon, and Chetia Kaivarta Gaon. The teams have successfully rescued and relocated more than 200 people to safer ground and government relief camps. Further rescue work is currently being carried out in remote areas such as Sundar Pukhuri, Bamun Pukhuri, Geleki, and Rajabari to provide cooked meals, medicines, and clothing to those stranded by the floods.

Relief Efforts in Jorhat District

Similar humanitarian work is taking place in the Jorhat district to support families in villages like Alengmora, Katiram Chuk, Kulai Chuk, Nalia Chuk, Senchowa Chuk, and Charigharia Chuk. Volunteers are using small boats to travel through flooded areas to reach homes that have been cut off from road access. During these visits, the teams are distributing essential supplies including tarpaulins, biscuits, candles, mosquito coils, soap, and alum to help families manage daily needs.

Support for Vulnerable Residents

Beyond delivering supplies, the relief teams are prioritizing the safety of the most vulnerable members of the community. Volunteers are actively assisting in the evacuation of the elderly, women, children, and sick individuals from inundated homes to secure locations. These coordinated efforts by RSS and Seva Bharati continue as the flood situation remains critical in these parts of Assam.
