Rohingya Youth Escapes Holding Center in Rajganj

A Rohingya youth escaped from the Phatapukur holding center in Jalpaiguri district on Sunday by jumping over a wall on the pretext of using the toilet. The incident caused panic in the local area of Rajganj block. Police and security forces quickly launched a search operation with the help of sniffer dogs to trace the fugitive.

The escaped youth was caught from a tea garden about one kilometer away near Panikauri More after a detailed search. The accused has been identified as Mohammad Salam, a resident of Myanmar.

Background of Detention

The youth was among four people detained from the New Jalpaiguri area on September 20 and placed in the holding center. After fleeing on Sunday, authorities tracked him down successfully using trained dogs and secured him within hours.
