Darjeeling MP Raju Bista has officially welcomed the announcement of the new 630-kilometer highway corridor connecting Siliguri, Guwahati, and Shillong. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari stated that the total cost of this mega project is estimated at 61 thousand 500 crore rupees. MP Raju Bista released a statement saying this project is a vital infrastructure initiative for North Bengal and the entire Northeast region.
The proposed corridor includes a 400-kilometer stretch between Siliguri and Guwahati with an estimated cost of 30 thousand crore rupees. Bista highlighted the strategic importance of the Siliguri corridor, commonly known as the chicken neck. He added that the Gorakhpur-Siliguri expressway project will also improve road connectivity between North India, North Bengal, and the Northeast.
Better highways will help in easy movement of goods, tourism, business, and passengers. This development is expected to create new employment and livelihood opportunities for the youth of North Bengal and the Northeast. Raju Bista expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for this major step.
