Rahul Gandhi wrote a letter to President Droupadi Murmu to stop Dushyant Kumar Gautam from taking charge as the Governor of Sikkim. The opposition leader wants the appointment on hold until the CBI finishes the investigation into the 2022 Ankita Bhandari murder case.
Ankita Bhandari was murdered in September 2022 at the age of 19.
Her parents raised concerns over the new gubernatorial appointment and asked for call records and location details of the accused persons.
The family also warned of protests in Uttarakhand if their concerns are not addressed within 24 hours.
Delhi Police detained Ankita's parents during an overnight sit-in protest at India Gate.
The parents were later released from the Tilak Marg Police Station after staging a demonstration against the political appointment.
