Protest at Jalpaiguri Medical College Over Patient Death

A tense situation occurred at the Jalpaiguri Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday following the death of a patient named Bhogel Das. The family members of the deceased, who hailed from the Jodpakri area of Maynaguri, have alleged medical negligence as the cause of his death.
Details of the Incident
Bhogel Das was admitted to the hospital on Monday evening after being stung by wasps near his home. According to his son, Chiranjit Das, his father was in a stable condition upon admission and was able to communicate normally. The family stated that the patient was physically well enough to walk to the restroom on his own on Tuesday morning.
Family Allegations Against Treatment
Following his return from the restroom, the family claims that a doctor administered an injection to the patient. They allege that his health deteriorated rapidly shortly after receiving this medication, leading to his death soon after. The family believes that an incorrect injection or improper treatment resulted in this outcome, which led to a protest within the hospital premises.
Next Steps and Formal Complaints
Manas Das, the nephew of the deceased, stated that the matter has been reported to the local Member of Parliament. The family is in the process of submitting a written complaint to the Medical College Superintendent and intends to file a formal report at the local police station. As of now, the hospital administration has not provided an official statement regarding the incident. According to the original report by Hindusthan Samachar, a thorough investigation into the matter is being demanded.
