Police Seize Brown Sugar Worth Lakhs in Kaliachak

Kaliachak police have arrested three individuals and seized a large quantity of illegal brown sugar during a recent operation in the Malda district. The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Kaliachak police station, where officers intercepted the suspects following a tip-off. The authorities have confirmed the recovery of 521 grams of brown sugar, valued at approximately 50 lakh rupees in the illegal market.

Details of the Arrest

The police identified the arrested individuals as Achintya Mandal, aged 25, and Amit Mandal, aged 20. All three suspects are residents of the local Kaliachak area. According to official reports, the suspects were spotted moving suspiciously on a motorcycle near the Ganga Narayanpur border ghat on Sunday night. Acting on secret information, the police launched a targeted operation and successfully apprehended the three men.

Ongoing Police Investigation

Following the arrest, the police conducted a search and discovered the banned narcotics in the possession of the accused. The authorities are now working to determine the source of the drugs and their intended destination. Investigators are also focusing on identifying other individuals who may be part of this drug smuggling network. On Monday, the police produced the three suspects before the Malda District Court for further legal proceedings.
