Police Seize 2.40 Crore Cash From Malda Drug Trader

Police in South Dinajpur and Malda conducted a joint operation leading to the seizure of cash and illegal items from a medicine trader. The raid took place at a rented flat and warehouse in Mangalbari, under the Malda police station, during the night between Sunday and Monday.
Items Seized During The Raid
During the search, the police team recovered cash totaling 2 crore 40 lakh 97 thousand 380 rupees. Additionally, the officers seized two gold coins weighing 10 grams each, a laptop hard disk, and 9,000 bottles of banned cough syrup. The market value of the seized cough syrup is approximately 20.16 lakh rupees, while its estimated value in the black market is around 90 lakh rupees.
Arrests Made By Police
Following the recovery of the cash and banned items, the police arrested three individuals. The suspects have been identified as the medicine trader Pintu Sarkar, along with his associates Sushant Haldar and Gopal Chaki. According to official reports, Pintu Sarkar is a key associate of the well-known drug smuggler Mridul Ghosh, who was arrested in South Dinajpur last month.
Background Of The Investigation
The investigation into the smuggling of banned cough syrup began in July within the South Dinajpur district. During this probe, the police found leads connecting the illegal network to Malda. Acting on this information, the South Dinajpur and Malda police forces planned and executed the joint operation that led to these arrests and seizures.
