Police conducted raids in various markets of Hooghly to check the rising prices and stock of essential items like sugar, onions, and vegetables.
The Enforcement Branch of Chandannagar Police visited multiple markets, including Bandel Bazar, Sheoraphuli Bazar, and Rabindranagar Bazar on Tuesday. Officers checked purchase bills, selling prices, and the total stock available with shopkeepers and wholesale dealers.
Officers visited grocery shops to verify the retail and wholesale prices of sugar. They also inspected warehouses to check the stock of potatoes, onions, and other vegetables.
Sellers were instructed that items cannot be sold at arbitrary high prices. Officers warned that strict action will be taken against anyone found involved in hoarding or overcharging customers.
