Police Arrest ATM Fraud Suspect Operating in Siliguri

Officers from the North Bengal Medical College & Hospital (NBMC&H) Outpost have arrested a man for attempting ATM fraud in the city. The suspect, identified as 43-year-old Jaganath Ghorami, was taken into custody following a tip-off about suspicious activities near an SBI ATM kiosk in Kadamtala.

Details of the Police Operation

Acting on specific information, the Matigara Police team reached the ATM location and detained the suspect. During the search of the individual, police recovered multiple debit and credit cards along with a keypad mobile phone. The suspect is a resident of Baruipur in the South 24 Parganas district and is believed to be a key member of an inter-district crime syndicate.

Criminal Network and Investigation

Initial questioning revealed that the suspect is part of an organized criminal ring based in the Kolkata area. The group reportedly traveled to Siliguri using a Mahindra Scorpio vehicle equipped with a fake registration number plate. The gang was operating from a hotel in Fulbari to target ATM users across Siliguri. Following the arrest, the Matigara Police have registered a formal case against the suspect.

Ongoing Efforts to Locate Associates

Authorities have launched an extensive search operation to address the wider criminal network. Police are currently working to identify the hotel used by the gang in Fulbari and are actively searching for the vehicle with the fake license plate. Efforts are also underway to track down the remaining members of the syndicate who are currently absconding.
