Officials Inspect Flood Affected Areas in Sabang District

Continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days has led to severe waterlogging in the Sabang block of West Midnapore district. Multiple areas, including Sarta, Bishnupur, Balpai, Dashgram, and Chaulkuri, are currently submerged. Floodwaters have entered residential courtyards and covered local roads, disrupting daily life for residents in the region.

Impact on Schools and Local Commute

Severe waterlogging has been reported in areas such as Chhatarkol, Satsai, and Chandagobra within the Sarta block. The accumulation of water has made it difficult for people to travel and has severely impacted local educational institutions. Many school premises are currently surrounded by water, making it challenging for students to attend classes safely.

Official Inspection and Relief Efforts

West Midnapore District Magistrate Bijin Krishna and Irrigation Department Additional Chief Secretary Manish Jain visited the affected sites on Monday to assess the situation. They were accompanied by Sabang Block Development Officer Roman Mandal and MLA Amal Panda. The officials inspected the submerged zones and spoke with local residents to understand the difficulties they are facing due to the rising water levels.

Distribution of Essential Supplies

Local administration has already initiated relief operations for the affected population. According to official reports from Hindusthan Samachar, over 1,500 families have received food supplies and tarpaulins. Local schools have been converted into temporary shelters to provide food and safety for those whose homes have been flooded.

Ongoing Monitoring of Water Levels

Authorities remain on high alert as fresh rainfall continues to impact various parts of Sabang. The administration is closely monitoring the water levels in local rivers and drainage channels to prepare for further developments. Officials are maintaining a constant watch on low-lying areas to ensure that necessary aid reaches all individuals in need.
