Northeast Frontier Railway Reroutes Trains After Track Collapse

The Northeast Frontier Railway has announced major disruptions to train services on the Lumding-Badarpur hill section following a track collapse near New Harangajao station. The incident caused the sinking of railway tracks, leading to the cancellation and rescheduling of several train services starting August 3, 2026.

Impact on Train Services

Railway officials confirmed that the track collapse affected both Line-1 and Line-2 in the region. To maintain connectivity, train operations are currently being managed through Line-3 under strict safety protocols. Specific trains impacted include the Sairang-Guwahati Express and the Guwahati-Sairang Express, both of which faced significant departure delays on August 4 to accommodate the new scheduling requirements.

Ongoing Restoration Efforts

Crews are working at the site to stabilize the affected area and ensure the tracks are safe for regular travel. The restoration process involves placing large boulders and wire mesh to prevent further erosion of the slope. These efforts are being carried out by the Northeast Frontier Railway and Indian Railways teams who are coordinating to resume normal services as quickly as possible.
