Former Trinamool Congress MLA Nirmal Ghosh alleged revenge politics by the government while being produced in court. Nirmal Ghosh was produced in court again on Saturday after a medical check-up. Nirmal Ghosh stated that the behavior towards opponents has changed because the government has changed.
Nirmal Ghosh was arrested from Puri in Odisha on August 13, 2026. The arrest is linked to a separate case connected to the 2024 RG Kar Medical College and Hospital doctor rape and murder case. Police stated that he is accused of a role in the hurried cremation of the doctor and influencing evidence.

Sanjeev Mukherjee are the other local leaders whose names have also appeared in this matter. Police took action against
Nirmal Ghosh under serious charges of destroying evidence, criminal conspiracy, and forcing actions under pressure.
The background relates to the incident on August 9, 2024, when the body of the woman doctor was found at RG Kar Medical College. The Central Bureau of Investigation investigated this incident later, and Sanjay Roy has been convicted in the main rape and murder case.
The new case regarding the cremation and alleged irregularities remains under separate police investigation. Victim parents approached the court in May 2026 demanding the arrest of
Nirmal Ghosh and others, following which police intensified action based on the new FIR registered in August.
