Nine Dead in Kolkata Hotel Fire Incident

A major fire broke out at a hotel located on Mirza Ghalib Street in New Market, Kolkata, on Tuesday night, resulting in the death of nine people. The victims include six men, two women, and one child. Firefighters arrived at the scene and rescued several people who were trapped inside the building.

Hotel Safety Concerns Raised

Guests staying at the hotel alleged that the management provided no assistance during the fire. According to the residents, the hotel lacked adequate fire safety arrangements. Many people struggled to find an exit as thick smoke filled the building. Guests reported that the hotel had a single, narrow path for entry and exit, and there was no emergency fire exit. Some people hid in bathrooms and broke windows to escape the smoke.

Rescue Operations and Allegations

Firefighters managed to rescue several people, including a family living on the top floor of the building. A woman from the rescued family claimed that they had repeatedly asked the hotel operators to install fire safety equipment, but those requests were ignored. The residents further alleged that despite previous complaints to the administration, no action was taken to ensure the safety of the building. Official details regarding fire safety norms can be verified through the Government of West Bengal portal.
