A newlywed woman suffered severe burns from a barbecue fire while on her honeymoon in the hills of Darjeeling. Nikita Saha sustained burns on about 50 percent of her body and was admitted to a private hospital in Siliguri for emergency medical treatment.
The victim and her husband had recently married and traveled to Sitong in Darjeeling district for their honeymoon.
They were staying at a local homestay where a barbecue was arranged in the balcony area. While sitting near the setup, sudden flames erupted and caught her clothes, causing severe injuries. She was first taken to a local health center and later shifted to Siliguri due to her critical condition.
CCTV footage of the incident shows the couple sitting near the barbecue along with another person who was adding a substance to the fire. Following this, the flames flared up rapidly.
Darjeeling Superintendent of Police Y. Srikant Jagannathrao stated that an FIR has been registered and a formal police investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.
