New Parking Zone Opens at Kanchenjunga Stadium in Siliguri

Siliguri MLA and State Tourism Minister Shankar Ghosh has officially inaugurated a new parking zone at the Kanchenjunga Stadium Mela Ground to address the city's ongoing traffic congestion issues. The facility aims to organize vehicle parking in the area, specifically targeting the heavy traffic problems frequently reported on Hill Cart Road and Bidhan Road.

Development of the New Parking Facility

Following prior announcements, the Siliguri Municipal Corporation has completed the necessary infrastructure work at the Mela Ground. The boundary wall facing Bidhan Road has been removed to create separate entry and exit points for vehicles. This project was initiated to provide a permanent solution for the disorganized parking that previously hindered traffic flow in the busy market areas of Siliguri.

Rules for Local Traders and Visitors

Under the new system, traders from Bidhan Market, Hill Cart Road, and Khudiram Pally are now required to park their vehicles in this designated area. Minister Shankar Ghosh stated that parking on the roadside will no longer be permitted to ensure smooth traffic movement. Additionally, vehicles arriving from outside the city are also required to use this new parking facility. The management of this initiative is being handled in line with reports from Hindusthan Samachar.

Parking Zones and Fee Structure

To manage the volume of vehicles, the new parking area has been divided into two distinct parts. Zone 1 is reserved for local traders, while Zone 2 is allocated for vehicles coming from outside the city. As an introductory measure, the parking facility will remain free of charge for the first 15 days. Once this initial period concludes, a fixed parking fee will be implemented for all users.
