Preparations are underway for the opening of the new Murti bridge in the Dooars region of Jalpaiguri. The newly built Bailey bridge on the Murti river is now complete after a long wait.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is expected to visit on September 22 to inaugurate the bridge, though final administrative confirmation is pending.
Administrative preparations started on Thursday following the possible visit.
Jalpaiguri Superintendent of Police Sujata Kumari Binapani inspected the helipad ground in Chalsa Tiabari and the new Murti bridge.
Senior police and civil officials, including Mal Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sudipta Sarkar and Matiali BDO Sumanta Bhowmick, were present during the security check.
The bridge was built through the initiative of the state Public Works and Road Department.
Local residents and resort owners are happy as the bridge opens before the puja festival, making travel and tourism easier in Dooars.
