Naxalbari Youth Dies After Mob Attack Over Theft Allegation

A youth died after being beaten by a mob in the Dayaramjot area of Naxalbari in Darjeeling district on Sunday. The incident occurred when local residents caught the youth during an alleged attempt to break into a house. The local police have arrested two individuals in connection with the incident.

Details of the Incident

According to reports, the youth was caught by family members after his leg got stuck in a grill while he was allegedly trying to enter a house. A crowd soon gathered at the spot, and some individuals began beating the youth. The victim was identified as Suraj Oraon, a resident of the Satbhaiya division of Atal Tea Estate.

Hospitalization and Police Action

Following the assault, the police arrived at the scene and moved the youth to the Naxalbari Rural Hospital. Despite receiving medical treatment, the youth succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The police have identified the two arrested persons as Suraj Malik and Ranjan Sen.

Current Status of Investigation

Following the death, the body of the deceased was sent to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
