Naxalbari Police Arrest Tractor Driver for Illegal Sand Mining

Naxalbari police have arrested a man for transporting sand illegally in a tractor during an early morning operation on Tuesday. The accused has been identified as Sujit Gwala, a resident of the Jabra area in Naxalbari. Police officials intercepted the tractor on the Panighata-Naxalbari state road as part of a targeted drive against illegal sand smuggling in the region.
Details of the Police Operation
Upon stopping the vehicle, the police team from Naxalbari station conducted a thorough inspection. The driver failed to produce any valid documents for the sand being transported, leading to his immediate arrest. The authorities have seized both the tractor and the sand being carried, as the transportation was found to be in violation of local regulations.
Violation of Environmental Norms
Reports indicate that the sand was being extracted from the Chenga River. The accused was allegedly ignoring Green Tribunal rules while moving the illegally extracted sand toward Naxalbari. According to Hindusthan Samachar, the police have taken the vehicle into custody and are continuing with further legal proceedings in the case.
