Nineteen people have died across two districts in Nagaland after drinking poisonous alcohol.
Authorities have arrested 15 individuals in connection with this tragedy. Police recovered a large cache of illicit liquor and seized more than 3,000 bottles of alcohol during raids across the affected areas. Senior Superintendent of Police Vesupra Kejo stated that investigators are working to trace the source of the tainted supply chain. A special investigative team led by Additional Superintendent of Police I. Bunglang Chang is leading these efforts.
Laboratory analysis confirmed the presence of methanol in the seized samples. Officials sent samples to a forensic laboratory in Guwahati to get a complete scientific breakdown of the chemicals involved. Public health warnings remain in effect, and officers urged citizens to avoid liquor without proper labeling or from unknown sources.

Nagaland has maintained a policy of total liquor prohibition since 1990. Officials are questioning the 15 suspects in custody to find out how the poisonous batch entered the local market. Investigations remain ongoing as police work to stop the distribution of remaining toxic stock.
