Naga Student Bodies Demand Strict Inner Line Permit Rules

The Naga Students' Federation and the Angami Public Organisation are calling for the strict enforcement of the Inner Line Permit system in Nagaland. These organizations want the state government to take immediate action to protect indigenous rights and control unauthorized entry into the state.
Government Guidelines and Legal Status
Following a Gauhati High Court judgment in June 2026, the state government is authorized to extend the permit system to the Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Niuland districts. The state government previously issued revised guidelines in August 2025 and made a cabinet decision in May 2025 to strengthen administrative compliance at all border checkposts.
New Measures by Tribal Organizations
The Angami Public Organisation launched a digital verification app in August 2026 to track migrant workers in their area. Additionally, the Naga Students' Federation has instructed all taxi operators to check the permits of non-indigenous passengers and drivers. These groups state that these steps are meant to ensure that people follow existing laws regarding employment and residency.
