Mother Seeks Death Penalty In Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder

Uma Raghuvanshi, the mother of the deceased Raja Raghuvanshi, has demanded the death penalty for prime accused Sonam Raghuvanshi and five other co-accused.

Demand For Capital Punishment

Uma Raghuvanshi cited the capital punishment recently awarded by the Supreme Court in the Meerut Blue Drum murder case to demand a swift verdict. She urged the government and the judiciary to deliver a fast decision, drawing parallels with the legal closure achieved in the Meerut case where Muskan Rastogi and her lover Sahil Shukla were sentenced to death for murdering Saurabh Rajput.

Background Of The Case

Raja Raghuvanshi went to Meghalaya on his honeymoon with his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, and was found dead in a gorge near Sohra on June 2, 2025. Sonam was later found near a roadside dhaba along the Varanasi-Ghazipur highway after being missing for many days. The Meghalaya Police SIT later reconstructed the crime scene in Sohra in the presence of the accused Sonam Raghuvanshi and three others as part of the ongoing investigation.
