Monsoon Returns to West Bengal With Heavy Rain Alert

The monsoon has become active again across West Bengal due to a low-pressure area forming over the northwest Bay of Bengal. The regional weather office in Alipore has issued a forecast for widespread rainfall across the state, bringing relief from dry weather conditions. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in several districts over the coming days.

Rainfall Forecast for South Bengal

Most districts in South Bengal will experience light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms. The meteorological department has warned that North and South 24 Parganas, along with East and West Medinipur, could see very heavy rainfall ranging from seven to 20 centimeters. Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, and Bankura are also expected to receive significant rainfall between seven and 11 centimeters. Residents in these areas are advised to prepare for gusty winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour.

Weather Update for North Bengal

North Bengal is also set to witness active weather conditions starting Wednesday. All districts in the northern region will see light to moderate rain and thunderstorms. Specifically, Jalpaiguri, Malda, North Dinajpur, and South Dinajpur are likely to experience gusty winds. Heavy rain is expected to continue in parts of North Bengal, with Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar receiving alerts for August 13, followed by Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Cooch Behar on August 14.

Marine Advisory and Ongoing Weather System

According to the Hindusthan Samachar report, the low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal is the primary reason for the increased rainfall activity. The weather department has issued a strict warning for the coastal areas of West Bengal and Odisha. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea between August 11 and August 15, as wind speeds are expected to reach up to 55 kilometers per hour in the Bay of Bengal.
