The monsoon remains active across West Bengal today, bringing widespread rainfall to various districts. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Alipore, most parts of the state will experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. North Bengal districts are under a specific warning for heavy rainfall, while South Bengal will see gusty winds along with showers.
Rainfall Forecast for North Bengal
All eight districts of North Bengal are expected to receive rainfall today. Darjeeling may witness heavy rain in some areas along with thunderstorms and winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. Heavy rainfall is specifically predicted for Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar, with estimates suggesting between seven to 11 centimeters of rain. Kalimpong, Cooch Behar, and the Dinajpur districts, along with Malda, are also expected to experience thunderstorms, gusty winds, and varying intensities of rain.
Weather Conditions in South Bengal
In South Bengal, Kolkata, Howrah, and Hooghly will see light to moderate rain with occasional thunderstorms. Districts like West Bardhaman are under a warning for heavy rainfall, while areas including Purulia, Bankura, and Jhargram can expect gusty winds reaching 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Nadia will also continue to see monsoon activity throughout the day.
Advisory for Coastal Areas
Authorities have issued an advisory for the West Bengal coast and nearby sea areas due to rough conditions. Wind speeds over the sea are expected to reach 35 to 45 kilometers per hour, occasionally gusting up to 55 kilometers per hour. High waves ranging from 1.1 to 1.3 meters are predicted until the night of August 20. Fishermen and boat operators are advised to exercise extreme caution during this period.
