Monsoon brings heavy rain across West Bengal districts

The monsoon remains active across West Bengal, bringing widespread rain and thunderstorms to various districts. According to the Alipore Regional Meteorological Centre, a low-pressure area moving in a west-northwest direction is causing light to moderate rainfall throughout South Bengal, with warnings issued for lightning and gusty winds in several areas.

Heavy rainfall warning for districts

Weather officials have predicted significant rainfall ranging from seven to 11 centimeters in parts of East and West Medinipur, Jhargram, South 24 Parganas, Purulia, and West Bardhaman. In regions like East Medinipur and South 24 Parganas, winds may reach speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour. Other districts in South Bengal should expect gusty winds between 30 and 40 kilometers per hour alongside persistent rain. Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, and North 24 Parganas are also included in the forecast for thunderstorms and windy conditions.

Rainfall expected in North Bengal

Wet conditions will continue across North Bengal as well. The districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, North and South Dinajpur, and Malda are expected to see light to moderate rain. The meteorological department has indicated that isolated areas in North Bengal could experience heavy to very heavy rainfall over the coming days.

Weather outlook and safety advice

Looking ahead, rain is expected to continue across South Bengal on August 15, with heavy downpours likely in specific coastal districts. While the intensity of the rain is expected to decrease starting August 16, the system continues to move toward Jharkhand. Due to the current weather patterns and strong winds, fishermen have been advised to exercise caution and follow safety protocols regarding all maritime activities in coastal regions.
