Monsoon Remains Active Across West Bengal With Heavy Rain

The India Meteorological Department reports that the monsoon remains active across West Bengal, bringing widespread rain and thunderstorms to most parts of the state. Authorities have issued a warning for heavy rainfall and gusty winds in several districts, advising residents to stay alert due to the risk of lightning strikes. According to the Hindusthan Samachar report, weather conditions are expected to remain unstable throughout the affected regions.

Rainfall Forecast for South Bengal

In South Bengal, districts such as Howrah, Hooghly, and the 24 Parganas are expected to experience heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. South 24 Parganas, East Medinipur, and West Medinipur face the highest risk, with potential rainfall accumulation ranging from seven to 20 centimeters in some areas. Other districts including Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Nadia are also likely to see thunderstorms and gusty wind conditions.

Weather Outlook for North Bengal

North Bengal will continue to see significant monsoon activity as well. The districts of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar are expected to experience higher rainfall intensity. Additionally, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, and Malda are predicted to receive rain showers along with thunderstorms as the weather system moves across the region.

Advisories for Coastal Areas and Fishermen

Weather officials have noted that winds along the West Bengal-Odisha coast could reach speeds of 35 to 45 kilometers per hour, with gusts up to 55 kilometers per hour. Fishermen are strictly advised not to venture into the sea until August 8. Furthermore, local cautionary signal number three has been issued for the ports of Kolkata and Haldia to ensure safety during these turbulent weather conditions.
