Monsoon Active Across West Bengal With Heavy Rain Forecast

The India Meteorological Department has reported that the monsoon is currently active across West Bengal, bringing widespread rain and thunderstorms to most parts of the state. Residents are advised to stay cautious due to the risk of lightning strikes during these weather conditions. The weather department has forecasted heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour in several districts of South Bengal.

Rainfall Forecast for South Bengal Districts

Kolkata is expected to experience light to moderate rain with occasional heavy spells and strong winds. Similar weather conditions are predicted for Howrah and Hooghly. Meanwhile, North 24 Parganas will see widespread rain, while South 24 Parganas, East Medinipur, and West Medinipur are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, with some areas potentially recording between seven and 20 centimeters of rain. Districts including Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, East Bardhaman, West Bardhaman, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Nadia are also likely to witness rain and thunderstorms.

Weather Update for North Bengal

Monsoon activity remains strong across the northern districts of the state as well. The intensity of rainfall is expected to be higher in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar. Additionally, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, and Malda are predicted to experience rain along with thunderstorms.

Advisory for Coastal Areas and Fishermen

Strong winds reaching 35 to 45 kilometers per hour, with gusts up to 55 kilometers per hour, are expected along the West Bengal-Odisha coast and the adjoining sea areas. Due to these rough conditions, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea until August 8. Local cautionary signal number three has been issued for both the Kolkata and Haldia ports.
