Vathuampui village in Mizoram has set up an offline micro-learning system to help students study without the internet. Persistent mobile network problems in the southern hill tracts of Lawngtlai district previously cut off remote areas from online education. Local teachers and the village education committee stepped in to solve this issue and ensure students do not fall behind in school.
Color-coded community study boards are now installed across four residential hamlets in the village.
Teachers update these boards every Monday with lesson plans, math problems, and reading goals. To help students further, the village youth association uses a manual cyclostyling machine to make paper worksheets.
These printed papers are delivered door-to-door so every child has learning materials at home.
Small groups of four to five students meet on home verandas to finish their assignments together.
Literate parents and older siblings take turns monitoring these study sessions and tracking attendance. Once the work is done, families make sure the completed assignments are safely returned to the teachers.
This simple offline method has successfully removed the digital divide and kept student academic rates high in Vathuampui despite ongoing internet blackouts.
