Mizoram to Formally Adopt Official State Anthem

The Mizoram government is preparing to officially adopt the song Ro Min Relsak Ang Che as the state anthem during the upcoming monsoon session of the Legislative Assembly. Chief Minister Lalduhoma announced the move earlier this month, confirming that a formal resolution will be presented to the house for approval. The session is scheduled to begin on August 25, 2026, following a mandate from Governor General (Rtd) Vijay Kumar Singh, with the Assembly Business Advisory Committee responsible for finalizing the session agenda.

Historical Significance of the Anthem

The song Ro Min Relsak Ang Che, which means Rule over us, was written in 1947 by the well-known Mizo poet and songwriter Rokunga. It holds deep historical and cultural importance for the people of Mizoram. For many years, the song has been used as a symbol of unity and community identity, appearing frequently at various cultural celebrations and official state functions across the region.

Guidelines for Official Rendition

Once the Legislative Assembly passes the resolution, the government will release official guidelines regarding how the anthem should be performed. Chief Minister Lalduhoma has recommended that the song be sung while standing. He also suggested that individuals place one hand on their chest as a sign of respect when the anthem is played at public events, schools, and government functions throughout the state.
