Mizoram Railway Line Completes One Year of Service

The Bairabi-Sairang railway line marked its first anniversary on September 13, 2026, after being inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 13, 2025. The 51.38 km project cost around ₹8,000 crore and includes 153 bridges and 45 tunnels through difficult terrain, as reported by News on Air.

Passenger and Revenue Growth

During its first year, the line served over 15 lakh passengers, with the Kolkata-Sairang Express maintaining an occupancy rate above 140 percent. Ticket sales generated about ₹54 crore for Indian Railways, according to data from the Press Information Bureau.

Freight and Logistics Expansion

Freight operations handled more than 2,500 wagons, with construction materials making up 70 percent of the cargo. Union Minister of Railways Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw launched the Sairang-Silchar service in January 2026 to further improve regional transport and market access.
