New Mizoram Rail Link Boosts Travel and Regional Tourism

The Bairabi–Sairang rail route has successfully connected Mizoram to the national railway network, transforming the infrastructure of the region. Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 13, 2025, the 51.38-kilometer broad gauge project was built at a cost of over Rs 8,000 crore under the Northeast Frontier Railway. Engineering and Operation Details

The engineering marvel includes 153 bridges and 45 tunnels spanning nearly 16 kilometers. In its first year of operation ending September 2026, the railway line handled over 1.5 million passenger movements and delivered more than 2,500 wagons of freight to Sairang. Economic and Tourism Growth

Economic and tourism impacts have been substantial since the project started.
