The Mizoram Health Department officially launched the SUMAN Healthcare Roadmap 2030 to protect mothers and newborns. The launch took place on October 16, 2026, during a state-level review meeting of the Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health programme in Aizawl, as detailed in the Mizoram Health Department press releases. State Health and Family Welfare Minister Lalrinpuii presided over the launch to strengthen public healthcare systems.
Health Secretary Lalzarmawii reported that
Mizoram achieved an institutional delivery rate of approximately 93 percent during the 2025-26 period. However, critical gaps in healthcare access remain within the Mamit, Lunglei, and Lawngtlai districts, where home deliveries without skilled attendants still happen.
The new roadmap aims to
reduce the Maternal Mortality Ratio to below 70 per 100,000 live births, following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals guidelines available on the
Mizoram Health Department RCH page. The framework includes a four-stage management system for high-risk pregnancies, nutrition support, and infrastructure upgrades like Birth Waiting Homes and dedicated Intensive Care Units supported by digital monitoring.
