The body of a young man named Amir Giyas, who went missing after being swept away in a river during heavy rain, was recovered two days later on Wednesday morning. The incident took place in the Kulti assembly constituency area of West Bardhaman district.

On the night of August 17, Amir Giyas was riding his scooter on the Niamatpur-Ethora road when he reached the Jahargarh bridge. Due to heavy rainfall, the water level in the Bhurbhuria river had risen significantly. According to a witness who was present at the scene, the youth was swept away by the strong current along with his scooter while crossing the bridge.

Search and recovery operation

Following the incident, the Kulti police station launched a search operation on Tuesday morning. Disaster management teams were deployed to search the river using speed boats, but they could not find the victim by Tuesday night. On Wednesday morning, local residents spotted the body of the youth near the bank of the Bhurbhuria river and alerted the police. The police have recovered the body and sent it to Asansol District Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
