Minister Arjun Singh Visits North Bengal to Review Tea Gardens

State Transport and Labour Minister Arjun Singh arrived in North Bengal on Monday to address issues regarding local tea gardens. He traveled from Kolkata to Bagdogra Airport and immediately proceeded toward the hills. The minister stated that the primary goal of his visit is to ensure the development of tea gardens and secure the rights of the workers. Several local leaders, including Darjeeling MLA Neeraj Zimba and Gorkha Janmukti Morcha General Secretary Roshan Giri, were present at the airport to receive him.

Focus on Minimum Wages and Tea Garden Development

Addressing concerns about the tea industry, the minister emphasized that the government is committed to resolving the issue of minimum wages for laborers. He stated that the government will ensure workers receive their rightful dues without any compromise. Regarding the closure of certain tea gardens, the minister noted that multiple meetings have been held to address the situation. He mentioned that action is being taken against individuals hindering the operations of these gardens, and one arrest has already been made to ensure the industry remains functional.

Statements on Recent Security and Political Issues

During his interaction with the media, the minister spoke about recent arrests of individuals suspected of terrorist activities. He alleged that these incidents are a result of desperation within the state leadership. Furthermore, he addressed questions regarding security threats to political figures, maintaining his previous stance on the matter. He also commented on ongoing investigations into illegal cash and substances found in various parts of the state, stating that further arrests are expected as investigations continue into corruption allegations.
